Life Afloat

An Oral History of People Living on Houseboats on the Tidal Thames

It is estimated that over a thousand people live afloat on the Thames between Teddington Lock and the Thames Barrier. These floating villages have a rich and, until now, untold history. Originally a pursuit for bohemians and those with little income, changes have taken place alongside those of London house prices.

digital:works worked with volunteers from King's College and the Geffrye Museum to conduct research and interview 28 people associated with living on the tidal Thames for this film documentary.
